When I look at a piece of cloth I'm working on, I see something challenging, inspiring, shocking or beautiful: colors blend, retreat and reach out; images hide and float on top of one another; unimaginable depth on a flat surface seduces and disorients; deep meaning combines with riotous display.

When I make cloth, if I can get really quiet, the cloth will tell me what it needs. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough so that I keep working, like some crazed explorer, who inches forward, hoping to find the place she is looking for.
